Toshiba Team Holding Valor Award

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions receives the Above and Beyond award from the Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR) in recognition of its policies and benefits that support National Guard and National Reserve service employees. This award recognizes companies that have exceeded the expectations of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act in providing employed Guard and Reserve members additional benefits such as differential pay to offset lost wages, extended health benefits, and more.

“At Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions, we value the hard work and dedication that service members of the National Guard and National Reserve perform to protect us at home and abroad. We empower our service member employees with meaningful careers while providing access to the benefits and opportunities they deserve,” said Rance Poehler, President and CEO of Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions. “Our commitment has driven a nearly 20% increase in directors and above who are military veterans in the past year. We are thrilled to have received this distinction, and we look forward to continuing to support our service employees.”

Michael Julian, the executive sponsor of Toshiba’s Veterans Employee Resource Group (ERG), VALOR, also shared his pride in receiving the award. “As an active duty veteran and former member of the Army Reserve, I am honored for Toshiba to have been selected for the Above and Beyond Award, recognizing our efforts in supporting our company's Guard and Reservist members. Meeting our obligations is one thing, but the extra efforts and accommodations Toshiba actively provides put us in a special place as an employer.”

VALOR was established as an ERG at Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions on Veteran’s Day in 2020, with a mission to provide mentorship and career development opportunities while demonstrating the workplace value of veterans. There are currently 55 active members in VALOR at Toshiba. The group supports events throughout the year, and one of its most successful annual events is the Tunnels To Towers 5K walk/run. In 2022, the company matched its commitment from the previous year, raising nearly $40,000.

Toshiba’s leadership believes a more diverse workforce will support innovation and progress across the organization, and its efforts have seen marked gains across hiring. The company continues to grow and evolve its diversity and inclusivity efforts, which are important to employees and the community. Today the company has four active ERGs that are focused on creating and maintaining a culture of welcoming and belonging. These four ERGs are VALOR, the Women’s Network, BLAAC (Black, Latino, African American, and Caribbean), and the South Asian Community.
